If you are censured and suffer abuse [because you bear] the name of Christ, blessed [are you—happy, fortunate, to be envied,with life-joy, and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of your outward condition], because the Spirit of glory, the Spirit of God, is resting upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. 1 Peter 4: 14
Recently my Pastor at Campus Church preached about sacrificing. One statement he said really stuck.
‘Deep spirituality is closely related to madness’
In so many ways, this statement couldn’t be any more correct. To be deeply spiritual is to sacrifice your social presentations of sanity. A man on fire for God will easily look like a man who has completely lost the plot. Thinking on this, I believe this is why many people find it so hard to be Christians and deeply spiritual. Before I gave my life solely to Christ; even though I was raised in a Christian home, I had so many rational well thought out explanations arguing why God isn’t real. Funny enough all this answers were developed by my interaction with the society we live in. Categories like vampires and mythology. It’s like society presents these stories in an alluring way but they are categorized under fantasy, just something to please the mind or to sustain a specific need. But the conclusion of it all is it definitely, 100 percent cannot be true. It’s just a myth. There’s some kind of invisible understanding that has been grounded. All these are just Stories that have developed over generations, stories to scare kids, to maintain a social order or just to please the mind.
In some ways I think religion has been portrayed as something of fantasy. A myth. Just like people obsessed with vampires. Others are obsessed with the idea of God. The thing is society has damaged the perception of people so much. I remember I invited a close friend to church with me one day and she said ‘it’s not my thing’. She has other things which she calls her thing, it just isn’t religion. It’s like choosing a genre that you enjoy.
All these are the works of the devil. The society we live in offers so much ‘masked’ freedom of thought which is actually its instrument of bondage. Isn’t it funny how a person who dies searching for something ‘outer worldly’ is praised and recognized but a person on fire for Christ is ridiculed and categorized as mad. As Christians we have to free our mind of the bondage of the impossibility, drop all social construction and make a stand for Christ. Let’s start sacrificing. Sacrifice your presentation of sanity if it means being on fire for Christ!
Come on! Who really wants to find a 1000 year old vampire ready to suck every ounce of blood in your body? The answer is slapping the world in the face. The world is ready to search but not find. Fortunately, we are not of the world, we have to show the world that we searched and we found a light that shines brighter than any other. What is the use of finding light if you’re just going to cover it up? If you’re going to be portrayed as being mad, is there a better cause? Be madly in love with Jesus. So in love that your sole purpose is to glorify his holy name. Show people we are found in Christ and in fact without him you are lost. In Fact the song amazing grace just describes this perfectly. Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a ‘Wretch’ like me.
Dictionary definition of wretch;
Need I say more? You actually receive sanity and peace of mind with Christ. So next time any one tells you to chill your fire for Christ. Pray that the Holy Spirit will come into them and show them the true light and in the nicest way possible just say if I’m mad; as long as it’s for my God, please let me be mad.
(Sorry for the essay! Trust me it was A LOT longer)
I’m not at the point in which I’m satisfied with myself that yes my fire is WOOW. And to be honest there’s a question of can you actually get to that point? I don’t know, but through my whole walk with Christ I’ve always found myself wanting more and more like always looking for new ways to do more for God. I guess it’s not easy in a society that is so against you to come out to say I want to die for the Cross. It’s like what Cross? What you on about mate? But remember, as the song writer says; Living for Jesus is not easy! (At all! Trust me) But he has promised to sustain you! So don’t be afraid!
Have a blessed week
From yours sincerely, Teni x
